Bucket List Project – Saba

Loved the theme overall, where intimate personal dreams were sprinkled throughout the album, (enjoyed the refreshing emphasis on self-improvement). The variety in the beats kept the album interesting throughout. With the exception of a couple of tracks, I didn;t feel Saba necessarily cared much about what he was saying and so, apart from the fire flows (which were defo fire), I found it occasionally uncaptivating. Would’ve liked him to move away from the safe verse-chorus-verse structure (purely because his choruses weren’t that strong).
Fave songs: Stoney (fudging unreal synth bass), GPS (nonstop-esque beat), Westside Bound 3, Bucket List, American Hypnosis (heartfelt lyrics).

Exemplary debut album in its construction. Combining straight fire beats which an overarching theme that connects the different ‘sections’ of the album. In music style, i.e. jazz infused hip-hop, lyrical content feels like a product of Chicago, and you can hear the influence of Chance The Rapper, Noname and others throughout the album. The album is a good length, maybe one song too long. It starts off beautifully, and the first few songs set the tone, however there is a bit of a dip in the middle but Saba finishes strong. The idea of a Bucket List as a theme is intrinsically hopeful, and as a result this album is a joy to listen to.
